MORDANT
A mordant is a substance used to set the colour on the fiber.
For our Collection of 2009, we used the following natural minerals and nuts as mordants for dyes.
Alum
Iron
Copper Sulfate
The most common mordant.
Disolve the alum in hot water and use this to boil the fabric before dyeing.
A well-known mordant.
It is a deleterious substance, so we used the minimum amount required. Disolve it in the dye pot, and dye the fabric.

We stopped using this mordant in 2010.
DETERGENT & SOFTENER
Soap Nuts (Ritha)
A natural detergent.
It will help to set the colour on the fibre and also soften the fabric.

After dyeing, we hand wash the fabric with Ritha water a few times.
